I work in a very small retail-type plaza in a small town in Florida. As I sit behind my desk at work, I look out the window and see a barber shop, a dog groomer and a cell phone store. There is also a realtor in the corner, but I can't see their door; I only see the people that come and go from there because they walk right by my window. There used to be another store front but that guy moved out - we'll call him "Dental Dude" since he had really nice teeth.
I have worked here a little over 2 years now and I have observed a lot in this little plaza. It used to be a common occurence for the police to visit the barber shop regularly. I also started noticing some intermingling between the 3 shops. This blog will be my "real-life" soap opera if you will. I will post about the craziness that we see and what I "think" is going on.
What I "think" is going on started as a joke between co-workers and has grown larger than life now and it may even be true, who knows!? I'm not going over there to find out...LOL. I think it is also important to note here that I have a wild imagination and I grew up around quite a few shady characters and known drug dealers/users. I think that is why my imagination has gotten the best of me in this situation and I have had so much fun in creating this world outside my window.
It all started one day, sitting at my desk, I told my co-worker, "Hey look, that guy just bought drugs over at the Barber Shop!" She said, "No way - get outta here!" I replied, "No, really, look!" to which I referred to something he must have been carrying, but then, from there, the stories began to grow. I would point out the various "customers" and make some outlandish remark about what they "bought" or what they "did" and it all became a big joke. It's all been a lot of fun; even our Boss has chimed in and said, "Oh yah, I know they bought drugs there! It's so obvious" LOL Which IS pretty funny!
Then one day something really strange happened, my co-worker and I started taking note that so many of the same people kept coming back over and over, which I hear you now saying 'It's a barber shop, they're just getting a hair cut!' but come on, girls frequent this place too and not just any girls, girls with dredlocks, we know they're not getting a hair cut!!! We also noticed some guys who didn't get a hair cut at all, and some people just hang out for hours at a time. So now it has become routine to remark on the sights we see through out vertical blinds. They even have regular "customers" that visit the same day of the week every week! Some who come almost every day and a new "barber" that started off as a customer just hanging out very often.
For the purposes of this blog we are going to base everything on these observations and crazy assumptions being TRUE! Besides, it makes it more fun to follow! Enjoy the craziness that has become...The Black Market Barber Shop!
